Jeppi Nut & Candy Company began in Baltimore 1884 by the Jeppi family, from Sicily. Three male Jeppi siblings opened John Jeppi & Brothers on the 200 block of South Sharp Street in Baltimore where they sold produce. Four years later the brothers switched from produce to peanuts in the shell and began preparing and selling piping hot roasted peanuts. Each week peanuts came to Baltimore harbor on large old bay line ships from Suffolk, Virginia and the brothers hauled them in horse drawn carts. As the business grew, the brothers purchased additional roasters and expanded their product line to all types of nuts.
In 1970 the successful business was sold to the Claster family and changed its name to Jeppi Nuts moving to 312 North High Street. Soon after purchasing the company, Mr. Claster passed away and Mrs. Claster decided to sell the company in 1973 in order to return to family in New York.

Charlie and Stella Pavlos purchased the company from the Claster's in 1974 as peanut sales soared, perhaps due to President Jimmy Carter's fame as a peanut farmer. Jeppi Nut & Candy Company then expanded thanks to its success and began offering 25 different kinds of candy. Charlie and Stella's children Ted and Marina later expanded the company to include retail and wholesale products as well. In 2002, their niece, Liz joined the company further adding to the family business tradition. Today, you can enjoy the old world charm of Jeppi's retail store in Timonium where you can still find a bag of freshly roasted hot peanuts.
